Winter is that time of year that usually sees less weddings.  It’s just the nature of unpredictable weather, chilly temperatures and difficult travel.  It’s definitely a brave bride that chooses to hold her wedding during a Michigan winter.  Weddings that time of year can be stunning, don’t get me wrong.  I LOVE winter weddings- they photograph like a dream when there is a blanket of snow on the ground and soft light reflecting in all directions.  But planning one and dealing with the stresses of so many potential snags and unknowns… yikes.  BUT… Lansing engagement photography in the winter??  Yes, yes, yes to infinity.  Bundling up and snuggling with your love, traipsing through fresh snow hand-in-hand… it’s a magical wonderland built for two.  And if the weather isn’t quite right, we always have a backup date as an alternative.

Iris and Kasey took advantage of the new-fallen snow at Lake Lansing Park.  They are HUGE outdoor enthusiasts and even brought their snowshoes!!  Me… well, I was fresh out of snowshoes.  I’ve never even seen them in real life… only in the movies, I suppose.  But they sure looked like fun!  We had a ball wandering around the park together, dreaming up ideas for their wedding and catching fun photos here and there along the way.  The day wasn’t lacking drama, though- I semi-fell into the frozen marsh by the boardwalk… thank God for my awesome waterproof Sorels, which saved my toes from the ice-cold water.  Kasey and Iris barely noticed, they were just too busy cuddling in the snow.  I had a good laugh, though- only I would fall into the marsh during a session.  By the time we got back to the cars, our fingers may have been  frozen, but our hearts were full.  Thanks for the super fun session, Kasey and Iris!  To see more Lansing engagement photography, click here.
